The latest “tool” for collectors is right at your finger tips, via your phone or even home computer. Card Mavin looks to help collectors with this ever changing hobby, the days of the old price guide are gone. Don’t get me wrong, I still buy and read them every month, but when it comes to a lot of the pricing, it’s out dated most the time before the ink has time to dry.
Card Mavin is one the first to take real-time listings from eBay, and give you actual results, allowing collectors to see what cards have actually sold for on eBay. For more info on Card Mavin and how it works, check out Alex Smith’s article on How to Use.

Box/case breaks are hotter than they ever been and wont disappear any time soon. You can find a break now from anything to random team, player, or a new one that I’ve seen is the number break, which actually isn’t that bad. A number of sites are offering breaks and everyone has their favorites for one reason or another. Here’s the list of breaks sites that I use, in no order…
For the collectors that haven’t jumped into breaks yet or not really sure how it all works, the guys over at Mojo put together a video to explain it all… (Plus bonus pts for the nice 8bit video game soundtrack)

Nothings better than when the collector can go straight to the source to get some of those card questions answered, and with all the big dogs in Chicago this last week, that’s just what collectors did. Topps hosted a Q&A with collectors on Saturday, talking about the NFL, NBA, and customer service. The most interesting thing to come out of this is the following comments Topps made, That seeing an insert card numbered to a certain level doesn’t mean that many cards have been distributed. For a full write up on this and the Q&A session check out the story on Sports Collectors Daily.
Another question asked of Topps at their booth on Friday was about the “Code Breaker” autograph cards that were
found in packs. This Brandon Crawford (Right) was pulled out of a blaster box from WalMart and shown to the staff at the Topps booth, but no one seem to be able to answer anything about it, matter of fact, 3 different people came over and looked at it and didn’t say a word and walked away.
