There use to be in almost every town and city across America, but now adays finding a baseball card shop is usually slim to none, but there are a few still out there like Tim’s Baseball Card Shop in the Chicago Area. While Tim has a steady stream of customers buying sports trading cards and sports memorabilia, the last thing we would expect to see is Tim’s Baseball Card Shop in one of those expensive Super Bowl commercials.

Tim Herron, The Chicago area dealer will be one of four small American businesses featured in a spot being prepared by Miller/Coors Brewing Company to run during Super Bowl XLIV. The 30-second ad for Miller High Life will feature Herron, the owner of Tim’s Baseball Card Shop, along with the owners of Del’s Barber Shop in Escondido, Calif., Loretta’s Authentic Pralines in New Orleans, La., Bizarre Guitar & Drum in Phoenix, Ariz.

Mr. Mint’s Revenge

Posted: November 15, 2009 in Baseball Cards, Mr. Mint

MrMintAl Rosen, once dubbed the “King of Cards” admitted he signed up for a memorabilia show in Queens this weekend to get back at a rival promoter who he claims reneged on a deal.  “That’s the main reason I’m doing this show, to rub a little salt,” Rosen said of his feud with promoter Jim Ryan, who runs competing conventions in Nassau and Westchester counties. Nicholas Hirshon has more on Mr. Mint’s revenge.

Eight Men Out

Posted: October 1, 2009 in Baseball Cards, beckett, Black Sox, Chris Olds

JoeThere are plenty of scandals for baseball through the years but today is the day, October 1st, 90 years ago that one of the darkest days in baseball officially began. The throwing of the 1919 World Series by the Chicago White Sox, which lead to eight players  being banned from the game for life. Chris Olds of Beckett takes a look at why we don’t see many cards of “The Black Sox” and why that might all change. Check out the story here.

Inside 2009 Upper Deck Series One UD Predl products, the Upper Deck company released a nine-card insert set entitled: “Historic First Predictors.” Theses cards made nine bold predictions for 2009 and stated that if any of them came true during the course of the year that it would do “something big.” Well one of those cards was Chicago being named host city for the 2016 Summer Games, and on October 2nd, that might just happen. Check Upper Deck’s site for more on the Historic First Predictor cards.
