Baseball Hall of Famer Harmon Killebrew lost his battle with cancer on Tuesday at the age of 74.  Killebrew played 22 seasons, playing for the Washington Senators, Minnesota Twins and one season for the Kansas City Royals in 1975. His early days even included a little time in Indianapolis. In 1958, Killebrew played in 38 games for Indianapolis batting .215 (26-for-121) with 14 runs, two homers and ten RBI. Killebrew hit 573 homers in his career, which ranks him 11th on the all-time list.

According to Beckett, Killebrew has 2,853 different cards, including 813 different certified autograph cards. He appears on 1,213 different memorabilia cards and unlike most players today he had only ONE Rookie Card, which can be found in 1955 Topps.

I was lucky enough about 10 years ago to sit down and talk baseball with Harmon, of all places the 3rd base dugout at Bosse Field in Evansville, Indiana. He was in town speaking and I had a chance to catch up with him at the park before hand, grabbing a nice sig and finding out, that “The Killer” was a great guy.
